In case you were wondering how the government shut down was affecting the Keys, here you go…

Everglades National Park is closed.  No access to the park or services.

Dry Tortugas National park is closed.  No ferry’s, no seaplane rides, no camping, no access.

And here is the big one.  No fishing in Florida Bay.  The back country, as it is known, running between the mainland and the Key’s all the way to Marathon is part of the everglades so all that area is closed.  No fishing, no commercial interests like kayak guides, or other services.  If this shutdown lasts a while it will probably put more than a few guides out of business.

Gotta love government.
