I know, it was a bit tease but worth it. I had planned it for weeks, even months before I came out here. So to be fair, here is the full sunset, my first on Maui.
They don’t do sunsets here like in Key West. There are no street performers, no big crowds, just a nice group of people chilling and enjoying the view. This sunset was taken at Kamaole Beach Park 3, in the village of Kihei, on the west coast of Maui. As it happens this spot is about a block from where I am living at the moment. It’s a nice clean little park with some beach as well as picnic tables and other amenities. I suspect I will be here a lot.
In the distance is the island of Lanai, where the sun vanishes at this time of the year. To the south is the islands of Kaho’olawe and Molokini, a favorite dive spot. This area is also noted for being a good place to see whales in the winter season. I’ll be anxious to see them when they come.
And off in the distance, the horizon, is nothing but ocean for thousands of miles. It’s the other end of the world. Take a look and enjoy:
You have no idea how happy I am right now.
